#DayofTheGirl

The International Day of the Girl Child promotes girls’ rights and highlights gender inequalities that remain between girls and boys. The International Day of the Girl Child gives people and organizations the opportunity to raise public awareness of the different types of discrimination and abuse that many girls around the world suffer from. Discrimination and #violence against #girls and violations of their #humanrights still happen. It is needed to raise awareness of the challenges that millions of girls face every day.

Number of people over 60 years set to double by 2050: WHO

The number of people over the age of 60 is expected to double across the globe by 2050, a report released by the WHO said on Thursday.

According to the WHO, the number of people in India who are 60 years and older is 116,553,000 in 2015 and it will be 330,043,000 by 2050.

The life expectancy for a baby born today in India is 66 years, but a person who is currently 60 can expect to live 77 years, on average, the report said.

"Today, most people, even in the poorest countries, are living longer lives. But this is not enough. We need to ensure these extra years are healthy, meaningful and dignified. Achieving this will not just be good for older people, it will be good for society as a whole," said WHO director general Margaret Chan.

The report said there was very little evidence that the added years of life were being experienced in better health than was the case for previous generations at the same age.

"Unfortunately 70 does not yet appear to be the new 60. But it could be and it should be," said John Beard, director of the department of ageing and life course at WHO.

The report stressed that governments must ensure policies that enable older people to continue participating in society.

STOP POLLUTION SAVE ENVIRONMENT

Many of the Earth's ecosystems are nearing critical tipping points of depletion or irreversible change, pushed by high population growth and economic development. By 2050, if current consumption and production patterns remain the same and with a rising population expected to reach 9.6 billion, we will need three planets to sustain our ways of living and consumption. AIDI celebrating World Environment Day by creating awareness among public about the need of saving our planet and role of everyone for the cause.

AIDI adopted Yamuna Basin Village for integrated development in agriculture

Organic farming has gained momentum in India over the past few years. AIDI is helping farmers across India to cope up with the advancements in the industry and help sustain high quality in their produce. These workshops are designed for and targeted to participants in the AIDI community, but are free and open to anyone interested. They are intended to give apprentices and other young, beginning, and aspiring farmers the chance to visit other farms, learn from farmers about their areas of expertise, and socialize with peers, AIDI proposes the formation of Farmers’ Clubs to educate and improve basic agricultural skills and management, to promote use of bio waste and generate bio fuel for community sustainability. Also, we aim to provide technical education for watershed management, rainwater harvesting, drought area agriculture. A large number of Village Peasant Groups/ Gram Karshaka Sangam (VPG) will be strengthened and monitored by AIDI for providing various services to promote agriculture and related services in partnership with state Agriculture Ministries.
